Louisville, Kentucky Incoming Exchange 2003

Friendship Force of Lincoln members welcomed the Friendship Force of Louisville, Kentucky to Lincoln on Monday, May 12, with a banner and Potluck Dinner at Forest Lakes Club House. The following day included a tour of the Nebraska State Capitol Building, a visit with Lincoln Mayor Don Wesely, lunch at the Governor's Mansion, and a tour of the University of Nebraska State Museum featuring Elephant Hall. We all wish a speedy recovery to Ruth Stout, who, unfortunately, suffered a fall while on the steps in the State Capitol. She stayed and visited with family members in Omaha, unable to attend other activities, until her return to Louisville with the group. Wednesday took us to Omaha on tours including Girls & Boys Town, Florence Mill, the Mormon Trail Center, Lynhurst (Joslyn Castle), and Omaha's newest and tallest building, the new First National Tower. Dinner for many was chosen from Omaha's many fine restaurants. Thursday, some went to the SAC Museum featuring the Lindbergh Exhibit, then on to Willow Point Gallery in Ashland, followed by lunch at Cheri O's. An option to visit the Museum of Nebraska History back in Lincoln was included.

Others attended a Victorian Tea and Clothing Show at a lovely bed & breakfast, the Atwood House, in Lincoln, after a visit to the Museum of Nebraska History. Friday was free. Many visited Speedway Motors Museum, a special and little known opportunity. Our guests, Ken and Sylvia Combs bicycled with us to see some of the Tour de Lincoln bicycle scultures on display throughout the city.

Saturday was the Big Day in Beatrice. Many photographs of the day can be viewed at Events on this Website. A perfect spring afternoon, and evening cook-out, at Don Crosier's cabin on the Blue River was a highlight of the whole week. Click here to see photos of the day.

Sunday was filled with independent choices, church, travel, other visits, until the Farewell dinner at 6:30 at Carriage Glen. Sharing discoveries, and telling stories about our new friends and the week together followed dinner catered by Tastefully Yours. During the week, plans were made for meeting again next April. After our farewells, we recalled a delightful week with our new friends from Louisville, Kentucky!
